The region of Orava lies in the north-western part of Slovakia, on the border with the Poland. The border crossing in environs of the village Oravska Polhora is also the northernmost point of Slovakia. Orava except beautiful nature has also architectural monuments in every commune. The most valuable of them is the Castle of Orava towering above the eponymous river. Samples of old popular architecture can be found in villages of Orava. They are also concentrates in the monument reserve of popular architecture in Podbiel and Open-Air Museum in Zuberec. The most important samples of old sacral architecture are wooden churches in Tvrdosin, Lestiny and Istebne.

• Oravsky Podzamok: Oravsky castle - One the most beautiful and largest castles in Slovakia, in the northern Orava region, Orava Castle is situated on a high rock above Orava river.
• Zuberec: Open-air museum - Unique open-air Museum of the Orava Village lays on area of about 20 hectares, and on both sides of the crystal clean Studeny stream. Museum of the Orava Village is a village containing the typical folk buildings moved here from various regions of Orava.
• Lestiny: Wooden church - The wooden Evangelical church of 1688 with wooden belfry. was included in 2008. The church is on the UNESCO Word Heritage List.
